Honoring Madison Men of Color in the Civil War

In late September, historian and MCAAHA board member Zann Nelson led an informative discussion on men of color from Madison County who served in the Civil War. The well-attended event was held at Revalation Vineyards as part of the winery’s “Sip & Learn” series. Nelson revealed that 71 native-born Madison men fought for the United States during the Civil War. She explored the lives of a few of the men, and MCAAHA was honored to have several of their descendants in the audience. Nelson also discussed the role of a few Madison men in the Confederate army. We look forward to more interesting events with Zann in the future!
